A total of 4,623 delegates gather at the Sumisip Municipal Hall in Basilan today for the opening of Palarong Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletics Association (ARMMAA).
Holding the annual athletic meet in Basilan for the first time, ARMM Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman highlighted the development of the province in terms of peace and security. “Kung noon ay banta ang seguridad dito sa probinsya ng Basilan, iba na ngayon,” he said.
During the event, Governor Hataman also remembered the bombing in Jolo, Sulu. Three of the affected, according to him, are employees of the regional government.
“Alam natin na may insidenteng nangyari kahapon sa Sulu, kaya pinapaabot natin ang ating pagdadalamhati sa ating mga kapatid,” he said.
“Ito ang pagkakataon na dapat tayong magkaisa at ipakita natin na kaya nating talusin ang palarong ito nang mapayala,” he added, encouraging the athletes to maintain peace throughout the competition.
Governor Hataman is set to go to Jolo, Sulu tomorrow to visit the families affected by the bombing
