The Australian Government and DepED-ARMM reached the far-flung island province of Sulu in January 2014 with classroom rehabilitation assistance through the Basic Education Assistance for Muslim Mindanao (BEAM-ARMM) Program. This particular assistance will provide 6,267 students with improved access to education in this area of Sulu.

A grant and partnership agreement signing and groundbreaking ceremony was launched on 15 January 2014 and attended by six elementary schools identified for the classroom rehabilitation efforts. PTA representatives from Bakud, Hadja Taiba Abubakar Schuck, Hji Gulamu Rasul, Hji. Hassimanl-Higad, Jati, and Tanjung Elementary Schools attended the event at Gulamu Rasul Elementary School, for the signing to demonstrate their commitment, which included a motorcade around the city and culminated with the ceremonial raising of the tarpaulin at the project site to signal the start of the classroom rehabilitation activities.

This classroom repair provided under the BEAM-ARMM Program complements with additional school building support under the School Building Program (SBP) and Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) of DepEd-ARMM.
