COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 12 May) – The school district supervisor in the municipality of Salipada K. Pendatun (SKP) in Maguindanao was shot to death while his nephew is in critical condition due to gun shot wounds, police said.

Inspector Haron Macabanding, chief of police of SK Pendatun, identified the district supervisor as Abas Minsu; the injured nephew is Khadaffy Minsu.

Khadaffy has been brought to an undisclosed hospital in Tacurong City in neighboring Sultan Kudarat province, police said.

The victims just boarded a motorcycle to head home to Tacurong City from the Bai Tambabai National High School in SK Pendatun when gunmen aboard another motorcycle waylaid them around 11:20 a.m. at Barangay Ramcor using a caliber .45 pistol.

But Dr. Meriam Kawit, Maguindanao schools division superintendent, said Minsu was yet to hold a final briefing with members of the board of election inspectors (BEIs) when the incident happened.

She added that Minsu had also been appointed as member of the municipal board of election canvassers.

“We are looking at all angles to find out what could be the motive behind. For now we are zeroing in on the incident as election related,” Macabanding said.

Bobby Taguntong, provincial chairman of the Citizens Coalition for ARMM Electoral Reforms (C-Care), said they consider the area as election hot spot.

Today they are deploying election monitors to closely watch the electoral process on Monday, he said.

At present one PCOS machine still has problems because it was brought to the area without memory card and cannot transmit signal, Taguntong added. (With reports from Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
