Pupils and students-math whizzes troop to Cotabato City for the Regional Elimination of the Metrobank-MTAP Math Challenge on February 22, 2013 at the Pacific Heights in Cotabato City.
This regional activity is managed by the DepEd-ARMM Bureau of Elementary Education (BEE) in partnership with the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP).
The general objective of the Math Challenge is to contribute in improving the quality of mathematics education in the Philippines. Specifically, it aims to: (a) awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and high school students in both private and public schools all over the country; (b) encourage students to strive for excellence in Mathematics; (c) encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills; (d) discover mathematical talents among elementary and high school students; and (e) provide students opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking.
The ARMM Regional Eliminations was participated by nine (9) Divisions except Sulu. This healthy competition was made open to all elementary and secondary public and private schools in the region.
“This year’s competition was great as many students and schools division participated compared to previous years’ challenges as there were only a number of finalists attended. This year’s regional elimination is even better as finalists are more critical as they asserted their critical thinking of having solutions beyond conventional and requested panel of judges to recheck and reconsider their solutions; this is the true spirit of a real Math Challenge”, said Robert Velasco, the MTAP National Coordinator during the Regional Eliminations.
Pupils and students from Marawi City Division got the regional championships both in individual and team competitions for 6th Grade and 4th Year levels; to wit:

As
a policy of the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. only winners who garnered scores of
thirty (30) and higher over 60 points would get the cash prize together with
trophies and medals and they shall represent ARMM in the National Finals that
will be held in Manila. (Ace Iya, DepEd-ARMM BEE)
