Bright Minds Read Program expands to Island divisions

By Moby Pandi, Chief of Staff, Office of the Assistant Regional Secretary for Programs

The Bright Minds Read Program of the Ronald McDonald House of Charities expands to island divisions targeting school heads and grade teachers from 120 target schools. The training was conducted last January 7-8, 2013, at Preciosa Hotel, Zambonga City.

These school heads and teachers were oriented on Beginning Reading tools by a complement of trainers from the UP Integrated School.

At the close of the training, each school received a free set of reading materials (P10,000/package) from Adarna House Publishing.

Assistant Regional Secretary Noor Saada (Operations) gave an inspirational message during the opening program. He emphasized the accountability of school heads and teachers present to share what they have learned to their students and fellow teachers back home.

This partnership, according to Assistant Regional Secretary Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph (Programs), "aims to make reading a fun and easy experience to Grade 1 students . It also teaches reading, comprehension, and critical thinking skills to students who are mostly first time readers. It creates educational materials specially designed to make beginning reading more fun and much easier. It also provides training for teachers so their lessons are easy to understand and apply."
